Growing
Edible flowers make a change form growing vegetables with kids
~ Nasturtiums are especially easy to grow and they are aboundant all summer
long. They also come in different color varieties and make lovely hanging
basket arrangements
~ Kids love growing nasturtiums for their beautful riot of colour and they
are very tasty too
~ Maya loves making nasturtium and comfrey fritters , a yummy kid recipe
to try
~ Kids love sucking the nectar out of nasturtium flowers, make sure these
edible flowers dont have any bugs in them before you try though !!!

~ There are flowers to eat that are safe- but lots of them are poisinous
to humans too , so make sure you and your kids can identify the flowers
that are edible before consuming them
~ Make sure flowers have not been chemically treated either, organic gardening
for kids is the best way forward
~ If you buy a plant form a garden center then it is best to wait for about
2 month after you planted them before using edible flowers ( this gives
any toxins a chance to leave the plant)
~ As always parental supervision is essential
~ Maya has learned to identify edible flowers from an early age and is now
a little edible flower expert :-) She makes yummy elderflower fritters too

Borage Flower petals are blue and great fun to add to a summer salad
and kids love eating something blue :-)
Herb Flowers are fun too, Chives flowers and their pretty pinks,
Elderflowers make yummy fritters and their tea is delcious too, We
make ice tea in the summer mixed together with lemonbalm
Squash Flowers these large edible flowers are yummy deep fried, there are
really large and one edibel blossom makes a good good kid meal garden treat
